Going the distance
I am bummed that I didn't write last night like I normally do. But, it's morning and so now I will write instead. It was a hot one in Arizona yesterday. I am patiently waiting for the Monsoons to hit our beautiful place, but until then, it's just hot and yucky.
I didn't run in the morning since I was very snuggly warm next to my sweet husband. So, I ran once I got home. Due to the outside temperature, I wasn't able to take the dog running with me, she wasn't happy about that.. Oh well, she got over it. I took off around 6.40 pm, the sun was still up, it was shinning on me, I could feel the sweat already starting to pour off of me. Before I got very far, I knew I was going to be hurting afterwards. Not my legs or anything like that, but my boobs are going to hurt. Some sports bras are great to run in when it's a normal day, others, I should know to wear when it gets to be around my monthly cycle. They swell and hurt and running in a bra that isn't as tight and supportive is just a bit painful.
Anyhow, I wanted to do a full loop around the lake by my house. I hadn't been able to do that for a while due to I'm lazy. I have been doing mostly 2-3 miles and this is a 4.5 mile loop. I needed to do this. I was doing so good at it for a while and then it just seemed like it was too far with so little time. Not today though. I pushed through that first mile with a time of 14:06. That's taking the walking into consideration too. I wanted to aim for a negative split. My second mile was 13:57. Doing great. I take off from my 2 miles resting point after stopping for water, and keep going. I keep thinking I'm going to kill this next mile, and nope. Hit it a 14:04. Well, it's still faster than the first mile, so I think I'm doing ok. The last full mile, I was having a hard time. It was hot and I was needing more water, had to pee, all the reasons why this mile sucked it big time. I hit my fourth lap around 14:57... Ouch. But, just as I hit my four mile mark, it was like my legs finally knew what they were doing. My stride lengthened and I could run like a mad woman. I was running down hill and I was in control and I didn't loose speed and I was so excited about this. I got to another half mile with a pace of 10:19.. Holy shit, why was this not the case 4 miles ago? I am not sure how long I could have done that, I got to the end of my driveway and instead of stopping the watch, I walked to the sidewalk. It was a great half mile, I want to do that more.
Things about this run that were interesting, I noticed that my running skirt is no longer going to be used due to the lack of compression in the shorts... they were more like bloomers today. That's no good, got a case of slight chaffing. Other than that, it was a great run. So glad that I took the time to go for a longer distance. Anyhow, more running tonight when I get home.
Until then, Happy Running All~
