6 Mile Sunday
I knew that I was going to be running first thing in the morning for next week, so I would enjoy the last evening run of the week. So, I took off with the expectation of running 6 miles. And wouldn't you know it, I did.
for the first time in what felt like forever, I got my ass in gear and ran more than 4 miles. Which is good if I actually want to hit my goal of 1000 miles for the year. I like having goals and entering races, it gives me something to work towards. I'm not competing with others, it's just me out there trying to be better than I did in the last race. For me, it's about getting better for me.
The run started off with a good pace. Overall, the pace of the whole run was fairly good too. I'm pretty pleased with today's run overall in fact. I set out and hit the first mile at 12:13 pace. Not too shabby if you ask me. I was thinking about the music and how much I loved listening to it and getting lost in it. And then my thoughts wandered to different music that I would add to the playlist. I thought of the recent death of Chester Bennington from Linkin Park and how that has affected so many others. I wondered if it was a suicide or if there is a more sinister plot that we the public are not yet aware of. I would like to think that he was happy at this point that it really wasn't as it seems. There are too many strange coincidences for this to be a suicide in my mind at least.
And for that matter, my heart always goes out to those who have lost hope that things will get better. I can't change how they feel, but it kills me to think that someone can get so lost in the current events that they don't see the bigger picture. Adults is a hard one to swallow, but when the youth of our country are doing it, that makes me even more sad...
Anyhow, the second mile found me walking a little more than the first but I was feeling so good. Like I couldn't believe how awesome it felt to be outside. This is where I started to notice that the air was so still. Not even the leaves on the Quaking Aspens were moving. I had a hard time trying to breath the air had become thick as well. So muggy indeed. I loved it though. It's rare where I live to be able to have a hot muggy day. The summer monsoon season is a great time for that... So is the middle of the snow storms that we get here, but that wasn't today. I love the feeling of the wet air in my lungs. Make me think that I could do so well in a tropical like climate where it rains a lot and there is a lot of moisture that comes off the ocean... yes, I want to live by the ocean.
I stopped at my half way point to see the peacock and his peahen. She was looking very lovely this evening, even in her brown and white feathers, the contrast again the area was stunning for me to see. And then there were a two billy goats guff that came up to me, I think they thought I had brought them food. I just wanted to say hello before continuing on my way.
I made it another half mile and tried to run on the small trail that runs along the side of the road. Due to the rain in the last three weeks, the mud was not cool, so I got back to the road and kept going. Right about my 2/4 mile mark, I stopped for the last time for the rest of my water. I need to find a bigger bottle to run with, but that would mean getting another water belt altogether, and that's not going to happen for a while. I will just have to make due. If I wanted more water, I can use my pack for it.
I was quite surprised how easy I was able to finish the run today. I walked but I ran so much more and I wasn't in pain and I was feeling good in the head. It was a great run to be sure. I finished in a good time for me, 1:22. I would like to be able to keep running this distance as a normal thing. I would like to have my time go down, but I know this was a good day. Likely it will go up if I try it again tomorrow.
Overall, I am so happy with today, and I managed to not fall asleep while writing tonight which is even better. Last night I propped my head up with my hands thinking I will just rest for 5 minutes, and then an hour and some change later, I woke up. Tonight, that's not the case. Tonight, I will find myself in bed early, reading about slavery in the United States. I'm pretty sure there is so much that was missed when I was in school, so it's nice to be a little more informed.
On that note, it's time for me to end this, I hope you have a great night, dear reader. I am looking forward to tomorrow's run. Short, but good I'm sure. I have finally given over to the fact that while my daughter is here, I have to get my miles in the morning so I can be sure to spend my evenings with my little goose. This week I have promised her that we would begin conditioning training for soccer that should start pretty soon.. I hope I can get her signed up in time. I hate when I forget to do it. Cash was tight all summer long so, who knows. But I'm glad that she seems very receptive to the training to get her to be a better player.
Until tomorrow, good night.
